Dance is offered to all year groups in Key Stage 3 and 4.
At Key Stage 5 it is included in the enrichment programme.
2018/2019 was a year of continued successes and growth for Dance, as we took part in the Great Big Dance Off National Finals at Cheltenham Town Hall in July. Over 24 regional champion schools competed and our Key Stage 4 students were crowned National Secondary Schools Champions 2018. This was an amazing feeling for all to take the title and huge trophy back to Southwark.
A few days later Key Stage 4 students had been invited to perform at the prestigious Sadlers Wells Theatre on the 16th July 2018 as part of the Step Live and The Royal Academy of Dance show. The day and evening ran smoothly and the students did exceptionally well.
Afterschool dance continues to grow with the new intake of Year 7s who are attending all classes on a regular basis, and are growing with confidence in readiness for upcoming dance competitions for 2019/2020.
On the 19th October we had an African Dance Workshop which was led by Akosua Boayke and Kella Panay who both have pivotal rolls on casting and children’s Director for the West End Musical The Lion King. The students had a great workshop and really enjoyed a day of dance with Akosua and Kella who were very impressed with the students and have expressed interest in coming back in 2020.
We are now working with the students for 2019/2020 on new dance pieces for the upcoming dance shows and competitions.
